London’s New Surprise Restaurant | Morchella🦞
London foodies might have heard of Parilla, a favorite among London chefs, but unfortunately, it’s too small and far away. There’s a new sister restaurant called Morchella (morel mushroom), a name that’s both modern and rustic, offering Mediterranean cuisine. It’s only been open for 2-3 weeks, and my partner and his boss were impressed during a midweek visit. They took me to try it out on the weekend, and it was great both times, with delicious Western-style dishes as well. Located in a Victorian-era former bank next to Exmouth Market, the interior has a Scandinavian feel, fresh and comfortable. I especially love the warm, orange-yellow glass chandeliers. Focaccia: 🥖 Both the baking and the taste are excellent, a must-order for every table. Pork jowl: The crispy pork skin with soft meat, paired with a sweet and sour onion jam, is balanced and not too greasy. Scallop, cauliflower mushroom: I thought it would be too rich with cheese, but the sauce was actually quite delicate, with well-seared scallops and a light broth. The only downside is the small portion; I could easily eat several. 🦐🐟 Sicilian fish stew is the best seafood pot I’ve had recently. It’s filled with very fresh red shrimp, scallops, large clams, and mussels, cooked in a tomato red soup that’s restrained, not overpowering the natural sweetness of the seafood. Even the carrots and fennel inside are not overcooked, blending into the soup while retaining their original flavor. Blood orange portokalopita with black olive: Recommended by the staff, this sweet, slightly crispy traditional Greek sponge cake with a tangy blood orange and salted black olives is incredibly satisfying bite by bite. Average cost: 70+ The staff mentioned that the new restaurant is still in various trials , We plan to go back in a month or so. #LocalsFavorite #HiddenGemRestaurant #AmbientRestaurant #GlobalEatingSquad #WeekendPlans #LondonFood #LondonHiddenGem #LondonNicheRestaurantShare
