Raven Row is truly beautiful from its name to its space. The space itself doesn't have a specific scent, but if I were to describe it with a fragrance, I'd say it's a complex one. The top note is the scent of wooden fireplace, the middle note is like a rich golden custard bun, and the base note could be fresh grass and mist. π²π₯ The wooden fireplace scent comes from the space itself. The textured wooden floorboards are covered with a thin layer of grey paint, which is uneven in the most charming way. Many of the upstairs rooms still have original fireplaces with traces of burning. The doors, doorknobs, stair railings, and floor tiles all have a rich tactile quality. You could almost explore the entire gallery just by looking at these details. π The rich golden custard bun note comes from the current exhibition that's transforming the space. The walls have been freshly painted with a warm yellow hue, complemented by lots of wooden and linen frames. Combined with the color palette of Brazilian artists, it perfectly matches London's chilly weather, offering just the right amount of warmth and happiness. π It's like how I wouldn't crave a steaming, runny custard bun in hot weather. Many things only feel satisfying at the right moment. The base note of fresh grass and mist is an extension of the London spring experience. For me, it's hard to separate the exhibition experience from my daily life. It feels like an event inserted into a day. Seeing a beautiful shade of green on a canvas and seeing a beautiful green by the roadside brings the same joy and excitement.
