London | Aromatic Iberico Pork 🌶️
🍖Bermondsey St is a gem of a place to eat from street to street. Tucked away behind Tower Bridge, this narrow, long street is a hidden treasure trove of Spanish, French, Italian, and Vietnamese cuisines, with a cluster of cozy taverns. My favorite used to be Jose, with its affordable, delicious food and dog-friendly policy, especially in the summer when I often enjoyed drinks there to my heart's content. 🍖Later on, I visited less often as it became too noisy, the space was tiny, and the food increasingly salty. But actually, there are two more restaurants on this street owned by the same person, both serving Spanish cuisine, which is more of the same. The advantage of this place, Pizarro, is its spacious, bright, and comfortable setting. The service is impeccable, and I've always believed that Spanish and Italian restaurants in London offer far superior service to French ones. Plus, they are mostly dog-friendly. 🍖Tonight, it was a dinner for two with dried squid, mushroom rice, Iberico pork with potatoes and red peppers. When we were about to order more, the bearded waiter stopped us, saying, "Too much, my lady!!" 🍖The squid was very springy, served with a sauce similar to mashed potatoes, and mixed with seasoned ham. It was a perfect dish to enjoy with a drink. The mushroom rice, served in a large iron pan, was indeed a generous portion that left us stunned, and we took home a big portion. The taste was quite good, with a typical Spanish rice style—chewy, textured, and rich with mushroom flavor. Of course, the best of the night still goes to the charcoal-grilled pork. Honestly, I've never had a bad Iberico pork dish; when the ingredients are good enough, the cooking method doesn't need to be complicated to be excellent. Overall, the delicacy and tastiness of the ingredients surpass Jose. 🍖The wine list was quite ordinary, and each of us had a couple of drinks. Together with the food, the bill came to £160. It was worth the price. It's a tavern worth revisiting, and next time, I'll order more dishes to accompany the drinks. If you happen to be near Tower Bridge or in the Shard area for some business, make a reservation here for a meal; you won't be disappointed. It's worth the visit. #LondonEats #LondonLife #LondonFoodExploration #MustEatInLondon #HiddenGemRestaurants #FoodieSpotlight #RestaurantRecommendations
