London | I Crossed the Whole City Just for This Hong Kong-Style Café
Heard there were massive queues when it first opened—lucky for me, I popped by while I was at Brick Lane today, and it was a total pleasant surprise! The food was so good it blew me away 🥹. 🍛 Char Siu Rice with Fried Egg Honey-glazed barbecued pork rice with a fried egg. Fluffy rice tossed with fatty, savory char siu and its rich sauce, plus a runny-yolk fried egg—every grain of rice coated in egg yolk and sweet char siu sauce. Shoveling a big spoonful into my mouth was so comforting. This bowl of char siu rice alone is worth the trip! Just a tiny note: the char siu is a bit thick and fatty, so it’s slightly chewy. 🫕 Swiss Wings Lou Ding with Egg Chicken wings with spring onion oil tossed noodles (lou ding). Oh my gosh, it was my first time trying this! The noodles are a bit like instant noodles but coated in fragrant spring onion oil. The chicken wings are tossed in a sweet soy sauce—surprisingly delicious, I absolutely loved it 🥹. 🍵 Hong Kong Milk Tea The milk tea has a really strong, rich flavor, but the texture is a bit astringent. I added lots of sugar and honey, but it was still bitter. Not my top recommendation—try other drinks instead! Heard their red bean milk and similar beverages are great; I’ll definitely give those a go in summer. ☕️ Yuen Yeung (Coffee Milk Tea) This one’s a winner! I never thought coffee and milk tea could blend so perfectly—it’s ideal for someone like me who can’t live without coffee. 📍 Café Info & Final Thoughts - Name: HOKO Hong Kong Cafe - Address: 224 Brick Ln, London E1 6SA - Average cost: £15 per person To sum it up: it’s so good, so good, so good!
