London | Said to be the Next Evelyn’s Table? ⁉️
It was a classically unfortunate day in London: a large downtown demonstration, the sweaty odor of the white gentleman in front of me during Phantom of the Opera that made me lose my taste for meat for three months, dark clouds accompanied by heavy rain, buses not coming, the subway not running, and waiting for Uber for half an hour 🥶. Drenched and disoriented, I arrived at today's dinner spot 📍 Counter 71. My reservation was for 6:45, and upon arrival, I was told to wait at the bar until the chef was ready and would call us over, with dinner officially starting at 7:15. I ordered a drink to warm up, and they recommended the jam sour I had, which had a harmonious blend of fruit and alcohol flavors~ Format: 15 course tasting menu | £110 Duration: Approximately 2.5 hours from the start of serving, with a moderate to brisk pace Setting: 7 tables for 14 guests surrounding the kitchen, allowing for a full view of the process. Dishes: 8.5/10 👍🏻 Langoustine / Crab / Buttermilk Buttermilk pairs well with anything, but it's destined to be with seafood. A small serving, scooped out in two spoonfuls, consistently good. 👍🏻 Several dishes were amuse-bouche style, so I'll mention them together Cheese gougere & cheese tartlet & chicken bite & beef tartare Two cheese puffs, a mini chicken taco, a beef tartare, all conventionally and consistently delicious. Overall, the meal started off steadily, gradually getting better to the main courses (where every dish was a surprise) and even the desserts were sincere. If a restaurant scores 8+ for every dish, the overall score can be raised to a 9. I chatted with the chef for a while; he seemed aloof but had a very endearing smile, and you could feel his happiness when complimented on his delicious dishes. The menu changes every three months, and I would be willing to come back then~ #LondonFood
