London | The Thai Cuisine That Soo Ji Loves Isn't All That Special

I finally tried the famous Kiln Thai restaurant! The doors open at 5, and by 5:10, I was already seated at the 10th table. Arrive just five minutes later, and you'll be queuing! 🕰️ The menu claims that many dishes draw inspiration from Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, and Yunnan. The flavors are indeed tangy and spicy, which the British seem to love, so I can understand why this place is so popular in London. 🌶️ 🥩 **Grilled Rump (p2)**: My boyfriend and I agree that it would taste better hot. The flavor is good, but it was lukewarm, which felt a bit odd. I think it might have been sous-vide cooked. 🍖 🍗 **Gai Yang (p3)**: The grilled chicken had a bit too much salt and tanginess on the skin, probably because the seasoning was concentrated there. The chicken itself was juicy and refreshing, and the sauce was just right. The sauce reminded me of dipping water or hot pot dipping sauce—tasty, but not exceptional. 🍗 🥘 **Clay Pot Glass Noodle (p4)**: The glass noodle casserole was pretty average. It tasted too vinegary, or maybe I'm just not used to such tangy flavors. The bell pepper and spices smelled great, though. 🍜 🍚 **Sticky Rice (p5)**: Every table got a portion of sticky rice wrapped in baking paper. If you're particular about your rice, beware—it was dry, felt pre-made, and seemed like it had been microwaved for 30 seconds. It was also tiny and cost £3. 🍙 🍲 **Herbal Chicken Soup**: The best dish of the night! When ordering, the staff will ask if you can handle spice. It tasted like Lanzhou beef noodle soup broth, which might be why it appealed to my Chinese taste buds. 🍲 📌 **Brown Rice**: We got this by mistake, but it wasn't charged. Don't order it, though—it was terrible (it's not the kind of rice Asians eat; brown rice has no place on a rice-based menu). It was so dry it could choke you. 🍚 🍸 **Mezcal, Blood Orange, and Cacao**: Refreshing and delicious. It's best enjoyed as the ice melts a bit or sipped slowly. The bartender mixes it right in front of you at the bar. 🍸 🍺 **Freedom Lager**: A fruity beer with a hint of floral aroma. 🍻 🖇️ **Overall**, it was a bit underwhelming. Maybe expectations were too high because of the hype on social media. If you're curious, give it a try, but aim to be there right when the doors open. Waiting over 30 minutes isn't worth it. Different strokes for different folks—those who love tangy and spicy flavors might really enjoy it. 🍽️ #LondonExplore #LondonFood #LondonRestaurant #LondonThai #UK #LifeInUK #RestaurantRecommendation #MoodBooster
