London Life | My Secret Garden
💚 The history of The Hill Garden and Pergola dates back to 1904 when Lord Leverhulme purchased a large terraced house named “The Hill” in Hampstead Heath. He wanted to create a perfect garden, which we would call a luxurious garden. To realize his dream, Lord Leverhulme hired Thomas Mawson to design the garden and Pergola. 💚The construction began in 1905 and took years to complete due to the interruption of World War I, finally finishing in 1925. Now, the park belongs to the City of London Corporation and is open to the public for free visits throughout the year. 💚The plants within the garden are wild, willful, rugged, yet somewhat enchanting. There’s no sense of artificiality here; everything feels naturally occurring. The colors of autumn are complex and layered. Each pillar and wooden beam is entwined with withered vines, symbolizing life extending and indulging limitlessly. (I won’t let anyone in this world not know about this abandoned garden) A must-visit for niche enthusiasts! 💚 Opening Hours: 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM #LondonLife #LondonHiddenGems #LondonGardens #WeekendGetaways #Ruins #SecretsOfTheRuins #ArtsAndCrafts #LandscapeDesign #GardenDesign
