London Niche Architecture Weekend Check-In 🏰
The abandoned Tudor palace, Eltham Palace, was transformed into an Art Deco residence by the Courtauld couple in 1933. The house features underfloor heating, a dumbwaiter, and a massive circular glass ceiling in the drawing room—it's hard to imagine such modern designs existed back then! 🕰️ The wooden panel paintings in the drawing room are fascinating. The Courtaulds had the craftsmen incorporate architectural elements from around the world that they admired during their travels. 🌍 Tickets need to be purchased in advance! Don't hesitate to ask the volunteers if you have any questions. Most of them are lovely retired ladies. One of them, an art historian, shared so much knowledge with us. She marveled that despite our young age, we have such a passion for art and history. She called this place a "hidden gem." 🌟 I hope all my London friends can visit—it's a hundred times more impressive in person than in photos! 📸 #ArchitecturalArt #ArtAndSpace #HistoricBuildingRenovation #LondonLife #LondonArt #ArtDeco #BeautyOfClassicalArchitecture #LondonWeekend
