Long Island’s Magical Lavender Fields Have Begun Blooming For The Summer–Don’t Miss This Purple Dreamland

If there’s one thing we’re going to do it’s going to stop and smell the roses...and the cherry blossoms...and the wisteria. But now it’s time to stop and smell the lavender as Lavender by the Bay, a magical lavender farm on the East End of Long Island, has started to bloom for the summer! The history of Lavender by the Bay ---------------------------------- The family-owned farm has been growing the highest quality lavender for over 20 years. It all began with a man named Serge who spent his childhood summers tending to a herd of cows in the South of France. As a young adult he moved to Israel to continue working the land before meeting his wife Susan and moving to her hometown of NYC in 1979. In the late 80’s the pair purchased a modest weekend and summer getaway property in Southold, NY and, wanting his weekend refuge to evoke the beauty of the south of France, Serge designed a lavender landscape for his new yard. Susan began crafting the extra flowers into sachets, lavender wands, and rustic bouquets to sell at the end of their driveway, a summer tradition that continued for many years. The demand for their lavender, as well as the honey acquired from Serge’s beekeeping side hobby, grew so strong that they began searching for a piece of land on which to expand. They eventually found the perfect location in East Marion, NY and established Lavender by the Bay, the farm we visit today! Lavender by the Bay today ------------------------- Today, Lavender by the Bay has two locations–one in East Marion and one in Calverton–and grows both English and French lavender varieties. The 17-acre Calverton farm is home to over 80,000 lavender plants which are typically in full bloom from mid-June through July and then again for a smaller bloom in late summer/early fall. The lavender fields are only in bloom for a very short amount of time, though, so when they do bloom you’ll definitely want to take advantage of visiting as soon as you can! Plus you can do way more than just frolic through the beautiful purple buds –fresh cut lavender bunches can be purchased to make your home smell amazing, as well as other items such as candles, teas, plants, body products, and even honey from their own on-site beehives. The flowers are now blooming! ----------------------------- As of June 7th, 2025, the lavender on the Calverton farm has started to bloom! The bloom is in its early stages, but the fields are already filling with that soft purple glow and heavenly scent we all adore so much. The farm’s Instagram writes, “We’re still waiting on the East Marion fields —they need a little more sunshine and patience—but Calverton is ready for you!” Though you can’t pick the blooms there are chairs throughout the farm so you can sit back and relax surrounded by their beauty!
