Maine | Which Restaurant Serves the Best Local Specialties in Acadia?

šŸ¦ž To be honest, any lobster you get in a port city will taste great if you pick a spot with good Google reviews. There’s not much "technique" involved—what matters most is the quality of the lobster itself. A price of around $20 per lobster is totally reasonable. šŸ¦ž Lobster rolls, though, vary a bit from place to place—it all comes down to personal preference. The traditional style uses mayonnaise, but I personally love the buttered lobster roll from Archie's Lobster. Instead of mayo, they sautĆ© the lobster in butter. This spot is right by Bass Harbor with outdoor seating, so the view and vibe are both fantastic. šŸ¦€ I’m not sure if crab rolls count as a Maine specialty, but I’m obsessed with them—even more than lobster rolls! The crab roll at Thirsty Whale Tavern is amazing: the bread is pan-fried in butter until crispy. Plus, it’s the only late-night restaurant in Bar Harbor. For something a little different, Archie's Lobster also offers unique options like a grilled cheese sandwich stuffed with crab meat. 🫐 Blueberry ice cream: The classic go-to is Jordan Pond Ice Cream & Fudge. Their blueberry and strawberry ice creams are delicious—not too sweet, with rich creaminess and bright fruit flavor. If you want to try unconventional flavors, check out Mount Desert Island Ice Cream. I got the plum and fig flavors, and both taste incredibly authentic—their plum ice cream even feels like eating straight-up fruit sorbet, with no heavy cream or excessive sugar. It’s a nice break from America’s typically sweet treats. 🫐 Blueberry pie: Jordan’s Restaurant is a popular recommendation, but I thought their pie was just okay. However, their blueberry muffins are incredible! The best blueberry pie I had was at Harraseeket Lunch and Lobster Company in Freeport. šŸ– It’s not a Maine specialty, but I have to mention Nostrano Frankie's Barbecue. An older gentleman runs it, and he smokes the meat in a proper wood-fired barbecue pit. To quote a Google review: "The ribs are out of this world good!" He also makes his own smoked salmon, but the portions were so huge we didn’t get to try it. #MaineTravel #MaineFood #Acadia #FoodieFinds
