Maine Road Trip: Lobster, Lighthouses & Blueberries—Don’t Miss a Thing

Rented a car in Boston and drove all the way north, ending our journey in Portland. Every mile was filled with coastal charm and delicious surprises! 🚗💨 🦞 Lobster: A Must-Have Every Single Day Maine is the lobster capital—you don’t need to fixate on viral "internet-famous" spots! Whenever we pulled into a small town, we just searched "lobster roll" + high ratings on the map, and we basically never hit a dud. Fresh, sweet lobster is everywhere here—it’s hard to go wrong! Below are my personal favorites: they taste amazing, and parking is a breeze (no circling for spots here!): ✅ Fisherman's Catch (Wells) They use whole lobsters, perfectly cleaned—no need for extra sauce, because the natural sweetness of the lobster shines through. One bite, and you’ll taste why Maine lobster is legendary. 🦞✨ 📷 Lighthouses: Afternoons Are Perfect for Photos If you’re not chasing sunrise, aim to visit lighthouses after 3 PM. The light is soft and the coast, turning the white towers and blue ocean into a fairy-tale scene—your camera roll will thank you! 📸 ✅ Nubble Light (York) A classic Maine lighthouse, and it was our first stop when we entered the state. Parking is easy and totally free—no stress, just stunning views of the lighthouse perched on a rocky outcrop. 🏴‍☠️ ✅ Portland Head Light This is a landmark-level lighthouse! It’s iconic for a reason—standing tall against the rugged shoreline, it’s pure New England magic. Parking costs $6 for 2 hours, which is totally worth it for the photo ops. ✅ Spring Point + Bug Light Not far from Portland Head Light, and parking here is free too! It’s the perfect "quick stop" to add to your itinerary—Bug Light’s smaller, cuter design is a fun contrast to the grander lighthouses nearby. 🫐 Blueberries: Eat, Drink & Buy Them All Maine’s blueberry products are everywhere—and they’re all delicious. From drinks to spreads, you’ll want to stock up (I may have bought too much… no regrets!). 🥛 Blueberry Milk Hannaford Supermarket carries brands like Smiling Hill Farm and Oakhurst. I only managed to find Smiling Hill Farm’s strawberry milk (still tasty!), and the glass bottle has a $2 deposit. You need to return it to the farm, but since my route back didn’t go that way, I kept the bottle as a souvenir—win-win! 🥤 Blueberry Soda Buying this at the supermarket is the best deal. It’s sweet, fruity, and the perfect refreshment after a day of driving or exploring lighthouses. Pop a can, and you’ll taste summer in Maine. 🍯 Blueberry Jam Stonewall Kitchen’s blueberry jam is available at Hannaford, Walmart, and their factory store in York. The factory store has a wider variety of flavors, but prices are a bit higher. For something extra special, check out small-town farmers’ markets—you’ll find hidden gems! I picked up blueberry jam from Rare Berry Farm at the Kennebunk Farmers' Market. It’s packed with fruit chunks, has a rich blueberry flavor, and you can sample it before buying. Slather it on toast, and it’s absolute perfection. 😋 #BostonLife #Maine #USA
