Malden | Yixiang Hunan Gourmet — Unsponsored Honest Review
This is the only Hunan restaurant in Malden. The overall flavors lean toward homestyle cooking—not overly heavy on oil or extreme spiciness, and you can choose the spice level for each dish. I went with medium spice for everything, and as a "fake Chongqing native," I found it just right. ✅ Dry Pot Cauliflower The best dish of the meal! Perfectly cooked—fragrant without being greasy, and the cauliflower stayed crisp. It pairs really well with rice and is a must-order. ✅ Stir-Fried Beef with Yellow Peppers A solid choice. The beef quality is decent, and the spice level and aroma are on point—nothing to complain about. Just a heads-up: it comes with a lot of cilantro. I don’t eat cilantro, but if you love it, go for it! ➖ Red Oil Tripe Nothing special, but not bad either. A safe option if you’re in the mood for a cold appetizer. 👍 Dry Pot Cured Duck Flavor-wise, it’s delicious with a nice cured aroma, though the meat is a bit on the tough side. That’s typical for cured meats, though—still worth trying if you don’t mind the texture. ❌ Stir-Fried Shredded Lettuce with Chives Honestly quite bitter—not recommended. ❌ Mashed Chili Pepper with Eggplant The peppers were a bit firm, not as soft and mashed as I’d hoped. Not as good as the version at Xiang Si Guan. 📌 Final Thoughts: If you’re craving Hunan food, this place can hit the spot. The cauliflower + beef combo is a safe and satisfying choice, and it works well for takeout too! (Just my personal take—hope it helps!) 📍 Yixiang Hunan Gourmet 184 Salem St, Malden, MA 02148 Merry Christmas, everyone! 🎄 #BostonFood #LifeInNorthAmerica #BostonFoodExploration #HunanCuisine #BostonLife #StudyInBoston #BostonUniversity #Boston
