Male Island and Ghuli Island Chapter
Maldives: Male Island and Ghuli Island Chapter ☀️ Before the summer vacation, this office worker managed to get a 9-day holiday. With three adults and two children, we headed to the local islands in the Maldives. We wanted to enjoy the beautiful sea without spending a fortune. Of course, during the rainy season, we were worried that paying a lot for a hotel on a resort island might just mean watching the rain 🌧️. Luckily, we had mostly sunny days. 🌟 May to October is the rainy season (low season) in the Maldives. However, July and August see Chinese tourists on summer vacation, making the whole world a peak season. Traveling in June allows you to avoid the crowds and have a better experience. June 21 (Saturday): Guangzhou ✈️ Kuala Lumpur ✈️ Male ⛴️ Ghuli June 22 (Sunday): Ghuli ⛴️ Maafushi June 23 (Monday): Maafushi - Going out to sea June 24 (Tuesday): Maafushi - Fulidhoo June 25 (Wednesday): Fulidhoo June 26 (Thursday): Fulidhoo June 27 (Friday): Fulidhoo June 28 (Saturday): Fulidhoo - Male June 29 (Sunday): Male - Kuala Lumpur - Guangzhou The round-trip airfare was 2,080 RMB per person. It had been over 3,000 RMB, but suddenly there was a 1,000 RMB discount, so we booked it. After landing at Male International Airport (on Hulhule Island), we went outside to buy ferry tickets to Male Island. It cost 1 USD or 15 Rufiyaa (MVR) per person, and my 6-year-old child was charged the same price. The ride took about 10 minutes. After getting off the boat, the blue two-story building on the left is the MTCC ferry terminal. When we arrived in downtown Male, we exchanged USD to MVR at a rate of 1:19.45. The exchange rate at the airport was 1 USD to 15.42 MVR, which was not good. ‼️ Note: When we were leaving Male and trying to exchange the unused MVR back to USD, we were told that if we didn't exchange the Rufiyaa at the airport initially, we couldn't exchange it back to USD at the airport. Fortunately, the duty-free shops at Male Airport calculated the consumption exchange rate at 1 USD to 15.42 MVR. In the end, we bought 6 packs of Lotus cigarettes at 51 USD each 🔪. It's recommended to keep around 100 USD, because the green tax at UMET Hotel, where we stayed for a transition in Male, only accepted 6 USD per person. All the places we visited and the 出海 activities could be paid with MVR 👍🏻. After lunch, we stocked up at the supermarket and went back to MTCC to buy tickets for the 15:00 No. 309 ferry. We arrived at Ghuli at 16:20 (22 MVR). There is only one ferry a day. All ferries are suspended on Fridays. Pay attention to the date and time. The ferry may be canceled if the weather is bad. You can also take a speedboat 🚤 at 25 USD per person. The Ghuli pier has slide 🛝 facilities and net stools hanging on trees. Next to it is the restaurant Salt Harbour, which is like a food stall. Fried rice and fried noodles cost about 55-70 MVR, plus a 7% service charge. We originally booked Guhli Avyanna Hotel, but were informed that we couldn't check in before departure. After contacting the staff Vidura via WeChat, he helped us change to Aimi Hotel at a low price. The hotel is right next to the bikini beach, with pier pick-up and drop-off service and welcome drinks, including breakfast. However, it's not recommended to book the family room at Aimi, as it almost has no windows. After putting down our luggage, we immediately rushed to see the glass-like sea and the sunset 🌅. In the evening, we walked to the pier to watch the locals fishing, and there were sharks and rays underwater near the shore. The next day, we watched the sunrise on the roof. We took the 16:25 ferry to Maafushi. Aimi upgraded our check-out time to 4 pm for free, so we had time to go to the glass-like sea again, take a nap, and then Vidura warmly took us to visit Avyanna . #Maldives
