Mammoth Cave, the World’s Longest Known Cave System
🌳Left from Nashville in the morning, a 1.5-hour drive to the Mammoth Cave Visitor Center. We signed up for two tours, both guided throughout. The most popular Wild Cave Tour needs to be booked months in advance. 🌳 Extended Historical Tour, we departed at 11:30 AM, lasting 2.5 hours in total, with 520 steps. The beginning is fairly flat, with a winding section towards the end. It’s not too exhausting; there were a few kids around four or five years old in our group who managed just fine. 🌳 Domes & Dripstones Tour, we left at 2:00 PM, lasting 2 hours, with over 600 steps. You descend deep into the cave right at the entrance, then gradually make your way up, with the final section’s stone stalactites being quite impressive! The cave maintains a constant temperature year-round, so a slightly thicker jacket is enough for a winter visit. #nashville #cave #caveexploration #travelogue #offthebeatentracktravel
