Masquerade | New York's Immersive Phantom of the Opera đ
đ218 W 57th St, New York, NY 10019 The best Phantom of the Opera production in the world đ! From lighting to stage designâeven the magic tricksâeverything brings new surprises within a familiar storyline and musical score. Moving through more than a dozen rooms, you travel across time and space, zooming in on key dramatic moments. When Christine looks into the audience during her struggles, you can see the starlight in her eyes and beads of sweat (even droolâŚ). Itâs incredibly challenging to adapt such a complex and widely reimagined IPâfrom stage plays to filmsâwith this much detail. Pure genius! ⨠đď¸ Ticket Tips: To be safe, book 1â2 months in advance. Or, like me, rely on pure luckâcheck the official website 12 hours to one week before the show. They sometimes release last-minute tickets (a bit pricier, around $300+). Keep refreshing! đ Dress Code: Black, white, or silver. Formal attire is a mustâplease follow it! đ¸ Photos: No photography during the show. Afterward, enjoy drinks at the bar. Itâs very darkâuse flash if you take pics! The entry is super immersiveâyouâre welcomed by a violinist in an evening gown playing âThink of Me,â transporting you straight into 19th-century Paris Opera. Many guests wear their own masquerade masks and gorgeous gowns. Itâs so lavish that itâs hard to tell whoâs an audience member and whoâs a performer! Compared to Sleep No More where you chase after NPCs and unlock secret rooms through intense running, Masquerade lets you stroll gracefully with a group of around 30 people. You wonât miss any plot points (each night has about 5â8 groups, and sometimes you can even hear powerful singing from neighboring rooms!). Shoutout to the lighting designâit mimics natural sunlight and contrasts warm and cool tones to reflect charactersâ inner conflicts. Especially during the church and rooftop scenes⌠absolutely magical! đ The new Masquerade delves deeper into both the Vicomte and the Phantomâs personalities. As the Vicomteâs âgoodnessâ is contrasted with his manipulation of Christine to lure the Phantom, the Phantomâs âevilâ is humanized through his backstory and profound loneliness. By the end, Christineâs choice might make you want to shoutâjust forget both of them, queen, you deserve better! đđ Let me know in the comments if youâve beenâor if youâre planning to go!
