I used to come here and look at myself in the big mirror behind the bar. Not like a crazy amount or anything. Just every 8–13 minutes I'd look up and adjust my hair. It was a really good mirror. They remodeled so I was worried about it. I couldn't sleep. I'd look at myself in other mirrors: Tom's, Fumo, 314 Pizza. But it wasn't the same. So I went to check it out. Still there. Great mirror.
I've had a lot of drinks in Masquerade and even paid for some of them. Robert Coates has a really fantastic line in a book of his. He talks about this mill with a big waterwheel. At night, from his little French cottage, he could hear it churning in the distance: "like thunder in Constantinople". When I go to sleep in my apartment, miles and miles and miles away from Masquerade, that's what I hear. Thunder in Constantinople.
What I'm saying is that Masquerade has given me an experience which really goes beyond 5 stars. I don't want to give you false ideas. If you go here, it will not be as good for you as it was for me. But who cares. Was Antony & Cleopatra performed best in 1607? As the years passed and the actors changed, did it get worse? I don't think so. Sure it changed. But it was always perfect. It was always Antony and Cleopatra.
Go to Masquerade and get a drink. Then get the ice cream. Look in the mirror. The bartenders there are great. Smell the scented candle in the bathroom. Think about how many people have sat where you're sitting. Look out the window. The lone and level sands stretch far away. But go, go,...
Read moreBest Persian food in Brooklyn. Perhaps the best Persian food in all of New York or beyond. Thanks — we will be back! —————— You know a restaurant is excellent when all you’ve had is their artisanal bread served with homemade butter, homemade yogurt turned into a dip, and homemade mortadella—yes, mortadella— and you’re thinking, “wow, I could eat just this, served with a bottle of wine…. I’d be more than satisfied.” And, also at this point thinking “when am I going to come back?”
Not your typical kebab affair. It’s better. I promise. I was introduced to a world of Persian food I’ve never had at a restaurant before at a level of quality that is reserved for fine dining establishments.
This is an elevated dining experience that is meant to be shared. And yes, there is a vibe too. Attention to detail with every dish that the chef explained to me is painstakingly made from scratch —yogurts, marinades, preparation taking days, with ingredients sourced locally. Warm, knowledgeable staff to boot, too.
The drink menu is legit. Think Persian twists on classic drinks—-but executed well, where other twists often fail. The best espresso martini in Williamsburg. Perhaps the city. My wife said the best...
Read moreGot lured in by all the good review. I took my out of town guest who enjoys Iranian food and left with the most disappointing meal ever. The only redeeming thing was the waitress that served us, she was very sweet which is why I bumped this rating to 2 stars. Food is honestly 1 star.
Appetizer Eggplant dip - only dish that was good The bread - very hard on the outside and inside, it just wasn’t for me even though the one review mention it was the best bread. Tomato and cucumber salad - good, but how can you go wrong with this Crystal rice - it is crispy on the outside, but the burnt taste over powered the actual seasoned rice
Entree Lamb Buger - avoid at all cost. Chicken - zero flavor Duck leg - trying too hard with a mole type of sauce that honestly didn’t elevate the duck or do anything to it. Bronzino with a mint sauce - it was decent out of the 4 entree we had
Drinks Rose mezcal - strong, the smokiness overpowered any rose Beet generation - not for everyone, strong beet flavor Sag - sweet and tart, what you expect from pomegranate juice. Turkish coffee martini - it was strong and my friend...
