Michigan | A Look Inside Hua Xia Supermarket in Lansing 🛒🥟

Following my last post about Chinese restaurants in Lansing, here’s a intro to one of the area’s go-to Chinese grocery spots! One of the perks of living in Novi is being just an hour away from Lansing — it gives me a chance to revisit my alma mater, enjoy some good food, and do a little shopping along the way. Today I’m sharing some unique finds from Hua Xia Supermarket (which we used to call “Eastern” back in my student days 🎓📚). 📍 Hua Xia Supermarket 📍 Address: 2800 E Grand River Ave, East Lansing, MI 48823 🥩 Hot Pot Lamb Slices: Their quality is really solid! We’ve compared lamb from Weee!, 168, H-Mart, and even Toronto’s T&T — Hua Xia ranks right after T&T and above 168 and Weee. (H-Mart’s cuts are too thick for hot pot, tbh.) 🛍️ Product Selection: It feels like they source some items from Canada — I’ve spotted a few products here that I usually only see at T&T in Toronto! Their hot pot sauce section is also bigger than 168’s. 🥟 Frozen Goodies: Lao Yu Yuan brand shepherd’s purse wontons and soup dumplings Old Shanghai “crab shell” pastries Guo Sheng Say soup dumplings Shandong-style pancakes (the same ones I mentioned in my jianbing article!) We don’t judge — we just love trying things we haven’t seen before! 🍖 Meat Section: Similar variety to 168 — free-range chicken, different cuts of pork and beef… but prices are a bit higher. 🍗 Prepared Foods: They have a really nice ready-to-eat counter with a wide selection. Not as good as T&T’s, but better than 168’s. Highly recommend the marinated pork knuckle — super flavorful! 💸 A quick note: Hua Xia is on the pricier side. Some items are noticeably more expensive than at 168 or Weee. But as a Detroit-area local, I still think it’s worth stopping by now and then! #Michigan #Lansing #ExploreLansing #MSU #Umich #AnnArbor #Detroit #AsianGrocery
