Mission San Jose in San Antonio 🗿✨
Visited Mission San Jose during Christmas in San Antonio — the weather was perfect, and the sunlight made everything look stunning in photos ☀️📸. Founded in 1720, Mission San Jose is one of the best-preserved Spanish mission sites in Texas and across the United States, later designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site 📜. This mission was once a self-sustaining agricultural community. To escape smallpox epidemics and Apache attacks, local Indigenous people moved into the mission. Here, they not only learned Catholic teachings but also acquired European farming, weaving, and masonry skills 🔧🏛️. It’s the only mission that still has fully preserved residential walls. You can see how the thick outer walls served both as defensive fortifications and living quarters for Native inhabitants — a powerful glimpse into the turbulent yet resilient frontier life of 300 years ago. #Texas #SanAntonio #TexasTravel #History #UNESCO #SpanishMissions 🌵🏜️📜
