Missions, Donuts & A 10-Mile Bike Adventure!

🚴‍♀️What an amazing second day in San Antonio! From giant donuts to historic missions and a spontaneous biking adventure – here’s how it went: 🍩 Morning Sugar Rush: Voodoo Doughnut Tried the Memphis Mafia – a MASSIVE donut! 🍩 Topped with chocolate, banana, cereal, and peanut butter – a true calorie bomb! 😂 So huge I could only finish half – kept me full until 5 PM! Wanted to try the Apple Fritter, but it was sold out. Next time! ⛪ San Antonio Missions National Historical Park This was the main event! Originally planned to see only half the missions, but then… 🚲 Amazing Discovery: Bike Sharing Along the River! Got a 1-day bike pass for $25 – totally worth it! Google Maps said 1 hour non-stop, but I took my time exploring. My route (reverse order): Mission Espada → Mission San Juan → Stinson Airport → Espada Dam → Mission San Jose → Mission Concepcion → Blue Star Arts Complex → San Fernando Cathedral The Alamo is also on the route (has a bike dock too), but I skipped it since I visited yesterday. Sometimes wondered if going downstream would have been easier 😉 📜 History & Stories of the Missions These missions were 18th-century Spanish communities where people lived, farmed, and socialized. 🌳 Interesting Finds: Trees with long pods – ground into flour by locals. Spanish dagger plants – used to make strong ropes. ⛪ The Religious Side: The main goal was conversion to Christianity. At Mission San Jose, there’s a beautiful Rose Window – meant for those not yet converted, who couldn’t enter the church. They could only worship through the window, and if they died unconverted, they were buried outside the church grounds. A bit heartbreaking to think about. 💔 ✅ Final Thoughts Biking the missions was the perfect way to see everything! The mix of nature, history, and architecture made this day unforgettable. If you’re in San Antonio – don’t miss this experience! #US #Texas #San Antonio
