Moroccan-French Charm in a Philadelphia Courtyard

Tucked away in Philly, this Moroccan-French fusion spot feels like a secret: walk down a narrow alley, turn right, and you’ll stumble into a delightful little courtyard—total “hidden gem” energy! Even on a gloomy day, the bright yellow cushions and intricate Moroccan patterns instantly lift your mood 🟡✨. That said, the food doesn’t quite live up to the stunning vibe—good, but not as “wow” as the space itself. What We Tried Complimentary Bites They offer small snacks to start, and my favorite was the mini bacon-egg squares—savory, with a nice balance of crispy bacon and soft egg. Sadly, they were served cold; I bet they’d be even better warmed up—would’ve taken the flavor up a notch 😊. Main & Brunch Dishes - 🥚 Eggs Moroccan: Tastes like home-style comfort food—rich, tangy tomato sauce coats the eggs, and it’s hearty enough for a lazy brunch. The only letdown? The bread served with it lacked that fresh, yeasty aroma—could’ve used more “bread flavor” to soak up the sauce 🥖. - 🐑 Lamb Shank Tagine: The star of the meal! The lamb shank is slow-cooked until fall-off-the-bone tender—each bite melts in your mouth, and the fatty richness feels indulgent (in the best way) 🤤. Fair warning: the lamb’s gamey flavor was pretty noticeable for me—if you’re sensitive to that, it might be too much. But the toppings saved the day: crunchy slivered almonds add texture, and soft, sweet prunes cut through the richness—they’re the perfect sweet-savory complement 🍯. Desserts - 🍰 Walnut Date Cake: The texture is crumbly and a bit dry (so have a drink handy!), but it’s packed with walnut pieces—you get a nutty crunch in every bite. The caramelized bottom layer is a highlight—sweet with a toasty flavor. Just note: compared to Asian-style desserts, it’s on the sweeter side 🍬. - 🍪 Macarons: Nothing special—pretty average. If you must try one, go for the dark brown coffee flavor—it has a subtle bitter note that balances the sweetness. The other flavors (like vanilla or raspberry) are way too sugary—skip those ❌. Vibe Recap The space is the real winner here: the courtyard feels like a little slice of Morocco in Philly, with cozy seating and vibrant decor—great for photos or a low-key date. Service was friendly, too—they checked in often but didn’t hover. If you’re after ambiance first and solid (not mind-blowing) Moroccan-French fare second, this spot delivers. But if you’re only here for the food, you might leave a little underwhelmed. 📍 Sofi Corner Cafe: 1112 Locust St, Philadelphia, PA 19107 #PhillyLife #PhillyFood #MoroccanFrenchCuisine #PhillyBrunch #HiddenGemPhilly #DessertLoversPhilly
