Must-do in New York for Christmas

Watch The Nutcracker 🩰 ballet 🎁 The Nutcracker has always been my favorite ballet from childhood, with its dreamy plot and sets fulfilling many of my childhood fantasies. I’ve seen several performances by different dance troupes from various countries, and there are significant differences in the storytelling and interpretation among them. NYCB has the most lavish and thoughtful props and sets that I’ve seen. The spectacle has left me awe-struck on multiple occasions. There are some clever touches in the performance, with many amusing scenes that elicit laughter from the entire audience. The mouse costumes are hilarious and not at all intimidating for children. 🎄 It’s truly the ballet most suited for Christmas. As soon as the overture begins, the Christmas spirit fills the air! Everyone leaves the theater feeling happy and warm, and the atmosphere from the audience is on point with enthusiastic applause. The Waltz of the Snowflakes ❄️ and the Waltz of the Flowers 🌸 are simply stunning. The only is that the expected segment of the wooden puppet dance was just average, and the tea fairy dance representing Chinese elements was too short, and the costumes weren’t very appealing… 🎀 I only got tickets at the top, the highest level, but the seats were fairly central with a great view. I wore my glasses today and could even see the dancers’ toe movements clearly, although the actors’ faces were a bit blurry. 🎁 I was lucky to have Mr. Chen Zhenwei in today’s performance; I bought the tickets blindly and didn’t expect him to be there. I could recognize him as soon as he came on stage for the Sugar Plum Fairy duet – the most brilliant part of the show. Both dancers were incredibly talented, showcasing their skills. 🪄 There were so many young dancers, and the kids were adorable! Reading the playbill, I learned that these children have the opportunity to advance through the ballet school and some may even join NYCB as performers, experiencing many different roles in The Nutcracker throughout their lives. It was quite touching 🥺 #Ballet #BalletPerformance #TheNutcracker #NewYorkCityBallet #NYCB #NewYorkWinter #NewYorkChristmas #NewYorkLife #Christmas
