Must-Try!! Cairns Rainforest Canyoning Adventure

Highly recommend all friends visiting Cairns not to miss the rainforest canyoning! It’s thrilling and super fun! I was initially worried if my mediocre fitness level would hold me back, but the tour perfectly balanced adventure and relaxation—I loved every second! 💦 The water is warm now, and even non-swimmers can join (life jackets provided). Just be comfortable gliding in the water—no need to panic, though some spots are 5-6m deep. Our tour lasted ~5.5 hours (group size affects timing). Today, there were only four of us, led by our awesome guide, Dom. 🌟 Hiking: ~40 mins to the mid-mountain. Wear sunscreen and eat well beforehand—there’s drinking water up there. No need to bring snacks (we lost our beef jerky somewhere 😂) or rent hiking shoes (regular sneakers worked fine). I was exhausted after the hike and doubted if I could handle the rest… but the actual canyoning was way easier! 🌟 Waterfall Abseiling: Got slapped hard by the waterfall (the water tasted sweet, though 😆). Trust your guide—keep your back low (parallel or negative angle) and move slowly. If you lean too upright (like my husband did), you might slip and get pushed into the rocks—way riskier! 🌟 Cliff Jumping: 4-5 jumps, ranging from 1m to 10m. I was terrified—my nerves made me belly-flop from the 6m & 10m jumps (ouch, my thighs! 🥲). Normally, feet-first entry is painless. Just hold your breath for 2-3 secs, and you’ll resurface. 🌟 Rock Climbing: Some sections require climbing with a safety rope—just secure your footing. 🌟 Natural Waterslide: A 35m slide straight into the water—so fast, so fun! 🌟 Swimming: The whole trip alternates between waterfalls + pools. Floating in the water, staring at the blue sky and tropical trees, was pure bliss. I’m a weak swimmer, but the guide and others helped pull me along by my life jacket. 🐸 Wildlife Spotting: Saw a sleeping bright green frog, giant blue morpho butterflies, purple butterflies, and a sunbathing turtle! Some bugs bite if you stay still, but moving keeps them away. We took the 6:30 AM tour—had the place to ourselves at first, but by the end, locals were swimming in the pools below. We did the Crystal Canyon tour (intermediate level, 12+) for AUD 174/pax (some agencies charge AUD 220 😳). We also paid AUD 25 extra for photos. 📍 Pickup: Available downtown or AUD 10 for transfers. ❤️🩹 Injuries? Minor scrapes might happen, but the adrenaline rush makes you ignore them. Watch for submerged rocks, and stay clear of waterfall currents when floating. Listen to your guide! #CairnsTravel #Canyoning #AdventureTime
