Must-Try‼️ Portland Delicacy: The Holy Donut 152

📍 Shop Name: The Holy Donut 🏠 Address: Multiple branches available (Recommended: the one not at the pier to avoid queues - 194 Park Ave, Portland, ME 04102) The renowned Holy Donut truly lives up to its fame—it’s absolutely delicious! These are potato donuts. If you’re a fan of french fries, potato wedges, or any potato-based treats, rush over now—you’re guaranteed to love them! Compared to regular donuts, those blended with potato have an extra layer of aroma and a slightly chewy, glutinous texture. The original flavor (Old Fashioned) has a perfect balance of salty and sweet, quite similar to the taste of Niulisi (a savory-sweet fried pastry from southern China). We also tried other flavors: The blueberry donut has actual blueberries mixed into the dough, plus a blueberry glaze. It’s sweet and tangy, bursting with blueberry flavor—so yummy! 🥰 For the chocolate sea salt flavor, the dough itself is chocolatey, topped with sea salt. Another winning salty-sweet combo, and it’s not greasy at all—delicious! 👍 The toasted coconut flavor is made with great attention to detail, loaded with toppings—there’s a thick layer of coconut flakes on the outside, so fragrant! 🤣 The pomegranate flavor is just average. It’s tangy, but since the dough is the regular original flavor, it didn’t stand out much to me—still worth a try if you’re curious. And our favorite flavor of all? Maple Bacon! It’s coated with maple glaze and sprinkled with crumbled bacon—yet another amazing salty-sweet creation. Hard to put into words; it’s just so good! 😋 A pro tip: Go in the morning! That’s when the donuts are freshly baked—you’ll get them still warm, and every flavor will be available. We went in the afternoon the second time, and many flavors were already sold out—such a shame! Also, the branch at the pier always has long lines. Opt for the one not in downtown instead; parking there is much more convenient too. #PortlandMaine #PortlandFood #PortlandTravel #PortlandEats #MaineTravel #TheHolyDonut .
