Must-Try Northwest Cuisine in New York š
This little Northwest restaurant is a favorite of mineāIāve been here at least 20 times. Itās my go-to place when I donāt know what to eat. š šDunhuang, 320 Lex Ave, near Grand Central. It feels like the only decent Chinese restaurant around here. š°The average cost per person is $20, and the value for money is šÆ. They offer 9 different noodle widths to choose from. I, a southerner, prefer the oil-poured noodles over the width of Lanzhou noodles and beef noodles. šOil-Poured Noodles: The noodles are very chewy, and they taste fragrant without being greasy. I order this every time I come. Even my northern friend, who usually follows a low-carb diet, couldnāt resist sneaking a few extra bites. Haha! šBig Plate Chicken: This is also something I order every time! The potatoes and chicken are stewed until theyāre tender and flavorful, and the extra-wide belt noodles are perfectly seasoned, with every bite being oily and delicious. (Even though Xinjiang Big Plate Chicken doesnāt look exactly like this, deliciousness is justice!) šBraised Mutton: I tried the braised mutton this time. My northern friend thought the mutton was very fragrant and even better than the Big Plate Chicken, but I found it a bit fatty and still prefer the Big Plate Chicken. š„Roujiamo (with mutton filling): I tried the mutton version this time. As you can see in picture 2, the meat filling is very generous and delicious! The bun could be a bit more fragrant and crispy. šI also tried a cold-mixed eggplant dish that I hadnāt had before, and it was a pleasant surprise! The seasoning was great, not greasy and not too salty. Iām looking forward to trying their hand-grab rice next time. I wonder how it compares to what we make at home. š¤ #LocalFavorites#BigPlateChicken
