Nairobi, Kenya | Food Recommendations

This is my second time in Kenya, and I haven’t done much except eat nonstop. Here are some honest reviews 👇 🌟 Japanese – Haru Sushi Bar Located opposite China Square, they had special Valentine’s Day decorations when I visited. The complimentary appetizers were tasty, and the ingredients were fresh. Recommend the sushi, sashimi platter, and the stone pot bibimbap. The tempura (which many rave about) was a bit greasy, and the fried chicken was too sweet (and the meat was dry). Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌟 Local Cuisine – CJ’s Kilimani Touted as a "national favorite" and loved by the middle class, with multiple branches. Ordered a salad (avocado was perfectly ripe), beef tacos (the fries were amazing!), and pizza (too saucy and heavy—not recommended). The portions were huge—enough for three people—and we ended up taking leftovers home. Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌟 Vietnamese – Măm Măm Vietnamese Kitchen & Rooftop Bar Near Westgate, all local chefs. The spring rolls were too bland (but felt healthy), the pho was average, and the pork chop rice was a total fail (had a weird smell). The drinks—coconut coffee and peach iced tea—were refreshing and good. Rating: ⭐️⭐️ 🌟 Thai – BangBang Thai Kitchen Located in the open-air area of Village Market Mall. Ordered the green papaya salad, mango sticky rice, chicken pad thai, and stir-fried water spinach—all delicious. Drinks (coconut milk and Thai iced tea) were also great. Zero disappointments! Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌟 Brazilian BBQ – Fogo Gaucho Brazilian Steakhouse Considered a budget-friendly version of "Carnivore" (Kenya’s famous meat feast). There are a few branches in Nairobi; I went to the Kilimani one near YaYa Center. All-you-can-eat grilled meats (KSh 3,200 per person, drinks excluded) with around 20 types of salads, sides, and fruits, plus 16 kinds of meat. Servers bring different cuts to your table on demand (with occasional grilled bananas and cinnamon-dusted pineapple—caution for sensitive stomachs!). Overall tasty and worth a try. Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌟 Chinese BBQ – Zhang Men Ren (Master Grill) Inside Chinatown, this small but popular spot serves authentic Chinese skewers. Very affordable (~¥100 per person) and offers delivery. Must-tries: grilled pork trotters and chicken cartilage, paired with fried rice—hard to go wrong. Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌟 Others Also tried some Chinese spots (some without photos): Chongqing Noodles (Chinatown) Yu He Noodle House Lanzhou Hand-Pulled Noodles China Garden Sichuan Cuisine Nairobi’s food scene—both local and international—is incredibly diverse. After this trip and my last visit, I’ll probably need 2-3 more weeks to try everything! 😋 #KenyaTravel #NairobiFood #NairobiChineseFood #Foodie #NairobiChinatown
