Nami Nori: A Mix of Surprises and the Ordinary, but Worth a Try (2)🌟
Crispy Calamari⭐️⭐️⭐️ The batter and seasoning are quite good, paired with a yuzu-flavored dipping sauce that balances the flavors well. They use a whole squid bucket here, not the usual rings, so the texture is really nice. Clam Soup⭐️ Just a plain miso soup, a bit salty. X.O. Scallop⭐️⭐️⭐️ The scallops are topped with fish roe and a black substance that I think is slightly burnt, giving it a fermented bean flavor. If you've ever had something called "soy paste," it's similar. Overall, it's okay, but the black substance's flavor is a bit overpowering and masks the scallop taste a bit. Tuna Poke⭐️⭐️⭐️ Delicious! The fried shallots on top add a nice texture and aroma without overpowering the tuna flavor. Spicy Crab Dynamite⭐️⭐️⭐️ I haven't tried it, but I've heard good things. Eggplant⭐️ This one is really, really ordinary. Maitake Truffle⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I haven't tried it, but this is the best dish of the night. Spicy Seabass⭐️⭐️⭐️ Another one I haven't tried. Coconut Shrimp⭐️⭐️⭐️ I haven't tried this either. Cucumber Black Sesame⭐️ The sesame sauce has no sesame flavor at all. It's really just raw cucumber with rice. Avocado Toast⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The only encore hand roll. Although it's similar to cucumber with avocado and rice, the nori is crispy, and it has fried radish bits on top, which makes a huge difference. The avocado, rice, and crispy bits offer three layers of texture and flavor. Amazing! Lobster Tempura⭐️⭐️ Not highly recommended. First, I don't think it's freshly fried. Second, it doesn't taste like lobster, and the yuzu sauce is too overpowering. Price⭐️⭐️⭐️ For two people, the average cost is around $60. #NewYork 🌇🌟
