Misleading Claims and Disregard for Celiac Customers at Nami Nori Williamsburg
I had an incredibly disappointing and concerning experience at Nami Nori Williamsburg, a restaurant that claims to be dedicated to serving gluten and celiac-friendly food. I don’t usually write reviews, but the blatant disregard for my health and safety have left me no choice.
Upon arriving, I made sure to inform the waitress about my Celiac disease. I was assured that Nami Nori’s entire food menu was in fact all gluten free and the only gluten they served was in the form of beer, but gluten-free beer options were also available. So I proceeded to order a gluten-free beer and when it arrived I made sure to check the label, just to be sure. I didn’t see any signs being gluten-free…
After a few minutes, the manager later approached me and admitted that the beer was, in fact, not gluten-free and would bring the actual gluten-free beer in just a moment. If I hadn’t checked the label, I surely wouldn’t starting drinking it! Later the server approached me and carelessly claimed this was an "honest mistake.”
Despite her initial apology, the waitress proceeded to avoid me for the rest of the evening. She wouldn’t talk to me but had no issue acknowledging the rest of my party. It is deeply disheartening to witness such unprofessional behaviour, especially when dealing with a health issue as critical as Celiac disease.
As someone with Celiac disease, I rely on restaurants that genuinely prioritize the safety and well-being of their customers. Nami Nori's false claims and the subsequent mishandling of my dietary needs not only put my health at risk but also undermine the credibility of their supposed dedication to gluten-free dining.
I urge those with Celiac disease or gluten sensitivities to exercise extreme caution when considering dining at Nami Nori Williamsburg. Their disregard for the health and safety of their customers is a grave concern that should not be taken lightly.
In summary, my experience at Nami Nori Williamsburg was deeply disappointing and troubling, marked by misleading claims, a lack of understanding, and a dismissive attitude towards customers with dietary...
Read moreHad an amazing lunch here at Nami Nori for a friend's birthday. Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. I would recommend making reservations if you have a larger party because I noticed that they don't have too many huge tables. More people in smaller groups would sit at the bar in front of the chefs. The decor and aesthetics are great; I love the modern minimalistic vibes.
They offer sets that are already prefixed, but of course you can create your own set. Each set comes with 5 rolls and then anything additional is a la carte. Although they look small, each roll is actually quite filling. To keep the seaweed fresh, they have each one wrapped and when you're ready to eat, then you can peel it off. Everything I ate was so fresh and delicious! Nothing tasted too fishy.
Here's a breakdown of what I ate: furikake fries: great appetizer, wasn't too salty and they were light and crispy. tuna poke roll: the tuna was smooth, the crispy shallots on top gave a perfect mix of textures. xo scallop roll: so smooth and buttery! lobster tempura roll: crunchy batter and flavorful spicy crab dynamite: crunchy, savory, and spicy; everything you would expect for this roll. The seaweed for this roll only even had these crispy balls stuck to it and it was a fun addition. crispy tofu chimichurri roll: the tofu was nicely fried on the outside yet still so soft on the inside. The amount of chimichurri sauce was enough where it wasn't overpowering.
The quality of the food matches up to the price you pay for. I think it was worth it and would definitely...
Read moreWe walked in and requested a table for two at 7:08pm on Sunday of a Monday-anchored holiday weekend. The host took my info and informed me that wait time would be roughly 75 minutes, and seating would be at the bar. I received a table-ready text 27 minutes later at 7:35pm and was seated promptly upon arrival.
Craving something refreshing and light, we each ordered The Signature Set from The Temaki Counter, which consisted of 5 hand rolls: tuna, scallop, coconut shrimp, spicy sea bass, and cucumber.
Tuna - wasabi forward, great opening roll Scallop - the roe doesn’t add much, but the flavor profile is good otherwise. Chili flavor is good and somewhat mala/numbing Shrimp - warm deep fried coconut shrimp, sweet and sour notes, very shrimp depth due to mini shrimps Sea Bass - Nice texture and balanced flavor profile, hot sauce bright out the natural flavors of the ingredients Cucumber - surprisingly flavorful, cucumber didn’t overpower the roll and wasn’t super fibrous, black sesame was umami
Overall, just what was needed on a hot summer day. We would love to come again to either the West Village location or to try the...
