New Jersey ☕️ Jersey City's Black Sesame Latte Adventure

Last Saturday, I headed to SoHo for The Lost Draft’s famous black sesame latte—only to be told they don’t serve it anymore 😢 Wasn’t that their signature drink? Oh well, luckily I found another spot in NJ that serves one! 🍴 LACKAWANNA COFFEE 📍 295 Grove St, Jersey City, NJ 07302 (They have two other locations too.) Their menu is pretty extensive, but by Sunday midday, most pastries were already sold out. I came for the black sesame latte and ordered it both iced and hot, each with oat milk. Note: their version doesn’t include espresso by default, so I paid an extra $1.50 per shot (a bit steep 💸). Honestly… it was just okay. The black sesame tasted like it was just blended powder—not fully integrated, and a bit grainy. Since I didn’t add honey, the unsweetened sesame had a mild bitterness that combined with the espresso made it quite strong. The hot version had a slightly richer sesame flavor (but also more bitter). The iced one felt lighter and more refreshing. Thankfully, the oat milk added a touch of natural sweetness. Overall, it’s worth trying if you’re nearby, but I wouldn’t make a special trip for it.
