New Mexico, USA đșđž | Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta
Albuquerque, New Mexico, hosts the worldâs largest hot air balloon festivalâthe Balloon Fiesta! Every year, over 500 hot air balloons from around the globe gather here. The festival takes place in October, and the most anticipated events are the Saturday and Sunday Mass Ascensionsâthe magical sight of being surrounded by more than 500 hot air balloons is absolutely unmissable! đ« Tickets General Admission: $15 per person. This lets you stay in the park all day. However, if you want to leave and return (e.g., to rest at your hotel at noon), youâll need to buy a second ticket. We opted to purchase two tickets upfront for flexibility. đ Parking Parking Fee: $20 per vehicle. Similarly, if you leave the parking lot and come back later, youâll have to pay again. We chose to rest in our car and didnât leave the lot, so we only paid $20 onceâthis saved both money and time! â ïž Critical Tips for Morning Mass Ascension Wake up EARLY if youâre coming to watch the morning Mass Ascension! Otherwise, you could end up waiting over an hour just to get into the parking lot. âŒïž We arrived at the parking lot around 3 AM, and there was no line yet. The park opens at 4:30 AM, but the first drone show doesnât start until 5:45 AMâso early arrivals have time to rest in their cars before the fun begins. đ What to Bring Folding Chair & Blanket: Mornings are freezing đ„¶âyouâll need these to stay warm while waiting. Snacks & Drinks: You can bring your own food (like sandwiches đ„Ș) and beverages. The park has food stalls, but theyâre overpriced and have long linesâavoid the hassle by packing your own! đ Key Events to Know Mass Ascension Only happens on Saturdays and Sundaysâthereâs no Mass Ascension on weekdays! âŒïž This means weekends are much busier. The event lasts until around 10 AM. Over 500 hot air balloons take off in batches from different directions. No matter where you stand, youâll be surrounded by colorful balloonsâyou can also move freely around the park to watch the preparation and launch process up close! Twilight Twinkle Glow (Evening) While not as grand as the Mass Ascension, this is the best time for photos đ·! Crowds are smaller in the evening. The balloons donât take offâinstead, they light up their burners on the ground, creating a romantic, glowing scene thatâs perfect for snapshots. Fireworks Show Scheduled for 8 PM, but it may start later. On our visit, the fireworks didnât begin until nearly 10 PM, and many people had already left. Personally, I thought the fireworks were just âokayââbut you might regret skipping them if youâre a festival completist! đ Hope this post helps with your trip! #NewMexico #NewMexicoTravel #AlbuquerqueBalloonFiesta #HotAirBalloon #BalloonFiesta #Albuquerque #TravelGuide
