New Orleans Food & Drink Diary
I stuffed myself silly with food for three straight days—now I never want to eat seafood again! I’m jotting this down for my dear friend who’s coming to NOLA soon 🥳 Hot N Cajun Boil Seafood A spot I went to twice in a row! I picked a combo with crawfish, king crab legs, and lobster tails—eating it was just one word: epic 🦞 The king crab legs were $66 per pound (we got two), and they were packed with meat! I went back again for late-night crawfish the next day—you can choose your spice level, and if you love spicy food, go straight for "hot" 🌶️ Cochon Restaurant I tried their grilled oysters and alligator meat. The grilled oysters had the savory-spicy flavor I love, and the alligator meat tasted a bit like chicken—super tasty, no weird aftertaste at all! (Finally, after my cat ate so many packs of FDA-approved alligator meat treats, I got to try it too 🐱💪) Also, their bread was amazing—don’t miss it! Luke I went during Happy Hour (3-6 pm) for $1.5 oysters each 🤑 Their grilled oysters were good too, but I prefer raw ones. However, their Seafood Gumbo was way too salty—so salty I even forgot to take a photo of it 😂 Mr. Ed‘s Oyster Bar & Fish House I mainly went there for their three flavors of grilled oysters—all three were delicious! Just order one of each if you go 🦪 I also got a Creole combo, which was Jambalaya + stewed crawfish, but I wasn’t a fan of the Jambalaya—it wasn’t anything special. Pêche Seafood Grill This is a Resy restaurant!!! If you’ve been wondering how to use your Resy credits, this is the spot—make sure to book a table in advance 📅 The more expensive oysters were amazing, but even the cheapest ones were good. Since it was my last day and I was totally stuffed with seafood, I didn’t order anything else. Honestly, just getting $50 worth of oysters and using your credits on them is a great call! Coffee & Beignets I had beignets at Cafe du Monde—they’re like donuts that aren’t overly sweet, perfect 🍩 There’s a location at the airport, so you can grab some there if you want, but their coffee was bland and tasteless. I also checked out the famous French Truck, where I ordered a New Orleans Coffee—it was good, but since I usually drink Blue Bottle’s NOLA blend a lot, it didn’t wow me. Also, their toast was way too salty 🥐 My favorite spot was Streetcar Cafe—their iced latte was awesome, and their beignets were delicious too! ☕ Jazz I went to Mahogany Jazz Hall—the vibe was great, and the drinks were good too 🎷 I wanted to go to Preservation Hall, but I couldn’t book a time that worked for me. Last little rant: Thaihey Nola! Their Thai milk tea was nice (not too sweet), but why did they force a 20% tip on the bill??? That was so annoying 😤 #NewOrleans #NewOrleansTravel #TravelGuide #Oysters #Crawfish #Food #FoodGuide #NewOrleansFood
