New Orleans Food & Drink Journey #2 β The Camellia Grill
While planning, I saw lots of love for this spot on Reddit's NOLA board π¬. You can take the streetcar and get off right at the door ππ. During our meal, we noticed many people wearing Tulane University gear β turns out there were alumni events and Homecoming celebrations happening that day! ππ Food 3.8/5 Came for Southern comfort food β no major surprises, but solid and budget-friendly β . π Fried Green Tomatoes β Enjoyed these! First bite reminded me of eggplant fritters, but crispy outside + tangy tomato inside won me over. The dipping sauce was a bit heavy, though. π₯ Gumbo β A tasty, easy-to-like Southern stew. Try a small bowl if youβre curious! π₯ͺ Roast Beef Poβboy β The beef was already salty, and gravy made it richer. Skip if you prefer lighter flavors π . π§ Pecan Waffle with Bacon β Added this last minute because the bacon smell in line was irresistible π₯β¨. Waffle was crispy with pecan bits β delicious! Ambience 2.5/5 Small, crowded, noisy β long wait and fairly greasy atmosphere. Service 3/5 We sat for about 5 minutes unnoticed at first, but after that, service was prompt β refills, condiments, etc. Maybe we werenβt extroverted enough π β the table next to us chatted happily with their waiter! Verdict: If you have time, ride the trolley here for a classic local experience. But if you're staying in the French Quarter, spots like Ruby Slipper or other brunch cafes offer similar menus β equally good! #StudyAbroadEats #NewOrleansFood #NewOrleansTravel π³π·π
