New York Dining Exploration | A Delightful Meal at The Grill

As the title suggests, I finally made my way to The Grill, a renowned establishment under the Major Food Group. Upon entering, my first impression was the high standard of the place, with two doors manned by two doormen, followed by a welcoming committee of about seven or eight people. I was a bit overwhelmed and couldn’t tell the difference between the greeters and the coat check, feeling a bit out of my element with such royal treatment. 😅 As a high-end steakhouse in New York, the decor had to be on point. The floral arrangements were beautiful and seasonal, and the art seemed to be in the style of Warhol – could they be originals? Then, heading up to the main dining room was truly dazzling. The height of the hall is a show of skill in New York, and the crystal chandeliers were definitely eye-catching. Before even sitting down, I knew the meal was going to be in the four-digit range. 💸 The menu is in the same vein as the Carbone/Torrisi sister restaurants, with the seasoning not overly simplistic but not too complex either. The kitchen’s execution of each dish was nearly perfect, leaving me very satisfied. Highlights of the night: 🦞 Lobster à la Newburg - Unfortunately, no photo, but it was truly stunning with one bite. I’ll definitely order a whole one for myself next time. 🥗 Chopped Salad - A variety of seasonal vegetables, finely chopped, with a slightly rich creamy dressing that was still quite complementary. 🥩 New York Strip - Cooked to a perfect medium rare, with a heavy hand on the pepper and salt, it was incredibly satisfying. 🦆 Duck Breast - The presentation was minimalist, just a piece of duck breast with sauce, but the skin was oily yet crispy and light, a contradictory yet delightful sensory experience. 🍖 A little incident that night was that I wanted to order the prime rib, but it was sold out. The waiter then brought out a portion of grilled ribs, saying it was the leftover part after the prime rib was cooked… I found it funny at first, like they were feeding the dogs, but after one bite, it was so tender and delicious that I happily continued to gnaw on it. 🐶 The dessert section was also commendable; it was sweet, as expected, but everything else was spot on. The piece de resistance was the sweet wine selection, which included a full range of d’yquem – another display of their prowess. Overall, the experience was excellent, suitable for special occasions or to show off a bit to the parents’ generation. The food is top-notch, but the prices are steep. Four of us ended up spending four figures, and just drinking water cost us $60 (a bottle of San Pellegrino for$12). If you have the means, it’s definitely worth treating yourself! #NewYork #NewYorkLife #NewYorkDining #SteakRecommendations #NewYorkFood
