New York Dining Exploration | A Delightful Meal at The Grill

We stopped in here because it was open late... The food was fresh and delicious!!! The waitresses were nice but didn't come by to ask for a refill on our drinks til we were done eating. But it was later in the evening and they may have had a rush earlier, so I understand that... it was no big deal. We did wait a few minutes for the food which was fine because it was late and like I said it was fresh and delicious! I got the patty melt which was awesome. The fries were good and seasoned... My daughter got a grilled cheese sandwich and fries and she ate all of it! 🍔🍟 🥪🥤 Note on the area: We did have to park on the street parking where there were bars and such so it was popin! We paid for parking using a meter which wasn't much at all. Lots of people out and about. There were a few homeless individuals on the Main Street while we walked asking for money and some holding signs, which I suppose is everywhere in bigger cities. We are from a lil town where we do not see this quite as much.(🙏)

I visit the grill during the Super BOWL LIII weekend, specifically on Saturday February 2nd, I was expecting a better service, but unfortunately do to the fact that Athens Georgia is a college town, the city bars and clubs were full and lots of of people in the Streets were hungry, when we arrive to the grill we were quickly given a table, but our server took almost 5 minutes before she came and ask us for the drink and we decided to order since we were hungry from a hectic day. Long story short the food took almost 30 minutes to arrive, we were really considering on just walking out other people were doing it too, finally the food came and it was descent but they forgot to give me Cole slaw with my platter.

THEY STOLE $50 FROM ME!

I arrived to the grill, with two other friends around 1:30am on Sunday morning Dec 1st. I ordered a BLT meal costing $8.70. It took over an hour to get our food, and we saw our food just sitting there in the kitchen for 20 minutes, ready to be delivered by the waitress. Needless to say, the whole dining experience was disappointing, so me and one of my friends had made up our minds that the waitress did not deserve a tip. I worked as a waiter for 3 years, and I usually leave good tips, but this was just bad. We finally left around 3:00am after finishing our food.

I went to the front counter to pay and used my credit card. I did not fill in the tip or total amount. I just signed and left. I should have X’d out the tip and total amount, but I did not anticipate one of the workers trying to steal my money and fill in a tip for themselves, which is exactly what happened. According to the restaurant, they have a signed copy of the receipt with a $50 tip filled in. I tried calling the restaurant 7 or 8 different times to explain my situation and get their mistake taken care of. But each time, I was told by the manager and duty that I would have to call back when the owner Mike was in. Each time I called back, Mike was usually not there, and I was told he would give me a call back, he never did. Finally, I did get Mike on the phone on Friday Dec 6th, and he said that he would have to review the security footage to see if I had actually filled in a $50 tip or not, and the he would call me back later that day to tell me what he found, he never did.

I called back Monday Dec 9th to speak with Mike about his findings in the security footage, he said that I had indeed left a $50 tip and that there was nothing he could do. I know for a fact that I did not, and I have 2 eye witnesses that can say the same. When I pressed Mike asking if he had actually reviewed the footage and told him to prove it to me by describing what I look like, he was unable to do so and told me I needed to speak with my credit card company and hung up. He also accused me of being drunk and flirting with the waitress, which is just a complete lie. First of all, I wasnt' drunk 2nd, I have zero interest in flirting with an overweight greasy waitress in her 30's. And 3rd, the service was so bad that I couldn't even get a refill of water, let alone flirt with anyone. These people are literal scum.

My belief is that the owner Mike is lying about reviewing the security footage to cover for the waitress thief. The issue is currently under review by my credit card company, but I am thinking of also reporting it to the...

I have never felt so embarrassed in my life let alone been asked to leave a restaraunt. A few weeks ago on a Friday Night my fiancé and I and our friends went out on the town, around 12:30-1 we all decided we wanted to grab a bite to eat so we decided on going to the grille. Let me just say this if your expecting a refill on your drink don't.. because you won't be getting one, and if you ask for anything extra (like ketchup) they look at you like your stupid. I ordered a hot dog because I wasn't that hungry and the bread was so hard that I could not eat it. Service and food was awful. Me and my fiancé are checking out and walking out the door while our friends behind us are paying, we are waiting on them when the cashier asks to see their ID since they are paying with a card, our friend kindly says you don't have to see it since I am paying as a debit card. And the next thing we here is you don't have to be a f* d!ck. Wow. I literally am speechless at this point, I don't know what happened after that because me and my fiancé walked out. The next night after the game a different set of our friends wanted to go out because they had never been to Athens before, so around 1:00 one of our friends needs to get food in his system to get sobered up so here we go off to the grille we walk in and say we needed a table for four and they say are you sure y'all will won't be obnoxious? I am literally about to go off right now no one is being obnoxious we are holding our friend up because he is about to pass out drunk, we sit down and his girlfriend takes him to the bathroom and while they are gone the same girl who called our friend a f* d!ck tells us we have to leave because our friend is stumbling to the bathroom.. I was in utter shock, me and my fiancé got up and left and waited for them to leave. I pray that this place goes out of business because you don't treat customers that way. I NEVER leave reviews of places, but this place called for one. Here's the thing if your the only place open in downtown Athens(open 24hours) and serve alcohol I don't understand why you would tell someone trying to get sober to leave, especially if they are not causing ruckus, she just remembered us from our company the night before. We will NEVER be back and I promise I let all of our friends who are fans of Athens know what a hell hole this place is and they said they won't be back and they thought the food was disgusting anyways This used to be a good place too that's...

I have actually had to cool myself down for two days to even write this review. Never in my life have I been treated with such disrespect. Myself & a coworker were in Athens for business. We went to the diner for a late night snack before calling it a night. We sat down and I ordered a patty melt. When the food came out, the waiter, Shannon (who apparently is on parole as he told us later) brought me a hamburger. I politely told him that I ordered a d patty melt asked if he could take the hamburger back and correct my order. The waiter rudely told me that I didn't order a patty melt, that I ordered a hamburger. Well I obviously didn't order that so I asked for the manager. The manager, Devin, told me that I had to eat the hamburger or pay for it and leave. I refused to do either, it's not my fault the waiter got my order wrong. I explained to the manager that I'm not an unruly college kid, but a business professional. He continued to argue with me and refused to correct my order or comp my bill. At this point I was highly irritated as he was being incredibly rude to me. After refusing to pay for the wrong order again, he told the cashier to "Call the Cops."

Well, the cops came, and I apologized that they got called off of their incredibly important job to deal with a $4.49 issue. They understood and said that the manager was used to dealing with drunk college kids, and advised I just pay and leave, ,so I did. The next day I check my account and find out that they charged me $26 and made up that I bought a Roast Beef Sandwich, Mozzarella stickk, and 2 orders of feta fries. I NEVER ORDERED ANY OF THAT. This restaurant has committed fraud by overcharging my account. The manager I spoke to about this, Ben, was incredibly understanding and is trying to work this out. If something doesn't happen I will get a lawyer involved for Harassment and Fraud.

Please do yourself a favor and do not go to this horrible excuse of an...
