New York FORT GEORGE | THE MET CLOISTERS(2)

He named his museum "George Grey Barnard’s Cloisters," which was also the first time in the United States that medieval art was exhibited in the form of a "cloister." 🍃🌸 In 1924, the cloister art museum was put up for sale. John D. Rockefeller, Jr. (1874 - 1960) generously opened his wallet, enabling the Metropolitan Museum of Art to purchase the museum and its collections. Rockefeller (from the oil tycoon family) also donated over 40 pieces of medieval art from his own collection to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. 🍃🌸In 1927, the Metropolitan Museum of Art decided to build this branch. Rockefeller once again funded the purchase of 66.5 acres of land north of Barnard's museum and turned it into a park. The cloister art museum we visit today is located on a hill in the center of this park. 🍃🌸To enhance the scenic beauty, the Rockefeller family even donated the "park across the Hudson River" next to this park, creating a vast and pleasant panoramic view. #NewYork #NewYorkAttractions #NewYorkLife 🌃🌟
