New York Guide | Hidden Gems β Gramercy Park (2)π
The way into the park is through that magical key. Gramercy Park is only open to the 39 surrounding buildings. π’π Each building has to pay $7,500 per year to keep the park's key. By 2012, there were 383 keys in total. πEach key is numbered and recorded, and it's super hard to make a copy. The locks and keys of the park are changed every year. If you lose a key, the first replacement costs $1,000, and the second one costs $2,000. π’π If you're a visitor and want to see what Gramercy Park looks like, you might think about staying at the Gramercy Park Hotel. πHotel guests can go into the park with a hotel worker, but only 5 people at a time. New Yorkers can also wait by the park entrance on Christmas Eve. Gramercy Park will open for one hour for the Christmas Eve carols from Cavalry-St. George's Church. π’π Even if you get into the park, you have to follow the rules strictly: no drinking, smoking, biking, walking dogs, exercising, feeding squirrels and birds. Taking photos is also strictly forbidden. #NewYork π½
