New York Manhattan's Only Private Park: Gramercy Park π³
Gramercy Park is the only gated private park in Manhattan, and the neighborhood is named after it. The name "Gramercy" comes from Old English, meaning "Thank you very much." π The park is exclusively for the residents of the 39 buildings surrounding it. Each building has to pay an annual assessment of $7,500 to continue enjoying the park. The Medeco lock π used for the park is changed every year, and the key π costs $350. I Googled Medeco, a Swedish lock company, and found out that their keys are almost impossible to duplicate casually. You can only get them copied at a Medeco - authorized locksmith, and every copy π is reported to Medeco and recorded. Such strict measures to ensure the park's privacy are probably because having a little oasis like this in Manhattan is so rare. When you walk by, even with some traffic noise, it's still a green and shady place, full of birdsong and the scent of flowers. πΈ Every year on Christmas Eve, the park is open to the public. #NewYork π
