Newport, Rhode Island: A Nearby Gem from Boston
It’s a 1.5-hour drive from downtown Boston to Newport. We made a quick stop in Providence to look around before heading further south. This time, we drove an electric vehicle (EV) to the U.S. and realized EVs are really not user-friendly here—unlike Montreal, where you can find charging piles easily by the roadside, fast-charging stations in the U.S. are extremely scarce! ➡️ Must-Visit Attractions Beavertail Lighthouse MuseumNorth America’s third-oldest lighthouse, built in 1749 ⚓. The coastline surrounds the lighthouse, making it incredibly photogenic—every shot turns out amazing 📸. There’s a free parking lot right next to it, so parking is hassle-free. Castle Hill LighthouseA lighthouse from the 1800s, guiding ships through the East Passage between Conanicut Island and Aquidneck Island. Take the trail next to the restaurant; it’s only a 10-minute walk to reach the lighthouse—short but scenic! The BreakersA Gilded Age mansion that served as the summer villa for Cornelius Vanderbilt II and his family 🏰. Admission is $45 per person. If you don’t want to go inside, you can still see the mansion by walking the trail around its exterior—still worth a look! Cliff WalkA coastal trail right next to the mansions. It takes about an hour to walk at a brisk pace, but the wind is really strong and cold—be sure to bring a thick jacket 🧥! The view of the ocean alongside historic mansions is unbeatable. Bowen's WharfA must-visit pier in downtown Newport! When we went, there was a two-day seafood festival happening—complete with concerts and food trucks 🎶🍤. It was so lively and fun, with a great harbor vibe. ➡️ Dining Spot Newport Chowder CompanyWe tried their lobster roll by the harbor—people say it’s the best in Rhode Island, but we thought it was just average. We ordered the “Roll & Bowl Combo” for $33 🔪, which comes with a lobster roll and chowder. That said, the owner was super friendly—total highlight of the meal! #BostonLife #NorthAmericaRoadTrip #MontrealLife #MontrealWeekendSpots #CanadaUS #NorthAmericanLife #EVRoadTrip #MontrealFoodAndFun #Canada #MontrealNearbyTrips
