No Escape in Front of the Mirror | New York Exhibition
đLĂ©vy Gorvy Dayan đš Michelangelo Pistoletto âTo Step Beyondâ Went to Levy Gorvy today to check out the exhibition (one of the best contemporary galleries on the Upper East Side), and I was truly impressed by the exceptional quality of the show! đ As one of the founders of the Arte Povera movement, the artist uses inexpensive materials like mirrors, plastic bags, trash, sheet metal, and more, combined with painting for his creations. The use of mirrors as a unique material enhances the interaction between the audience and the artwork. đȘ Personally, I find the use of mirrors as a creative material quite clever. When weâre so in love with ourselves that we canât resist stopping in front of a mirror, appreciating the artwork becomes a form of self-admiration. The audience lingers in front of the pieces for a long time because the content is the familiar self, and through the mirror, they can see the relationship of âseeing and being seenâ between themselves, the space they occupy, and the artwork. If youâre not a fan of mirrors, or the reflection they cast, yet you want to appreciate the artwork, youâll find yourself with no escape. This is quite intriguing because I kept trying to find an angle where I couldnât see myself to capture the complete artwork, only to realize that if I couldnât see myself, I couldnât capture the full piece either. #ArtExhibitionCheckIn #ContemporaryArt #NewYork #NewYorkExhibition #ArtHistory #Mirror
