NOLA New Orleans Food Guide (Part 1) 🍽️✨
I tried recommendations from Yelp, and even consulted GPT — overall, the meals were visually appealing and didn’t disappoint, though I felt some were a bit overrated. Here’s my take from the perspective of a tastebud from the Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai region. Next up — local recommendations! 🌟 Peche Seafood My favorite of the four! 🦪 Their locally farmed oysters were small but incredibly fresh and sweet — priced double the wild ones but worth it. 🥩 Beef tartare was flavorful — great as a half-portion appetizer but a bit salty if eaten in full. 🍝 Shrimp Noodle had a lovely cumin aroma and was generously coated in sauce — delicious! 🐟 Snapper was chewy but bland — needed the side veggies, but I’m not a bean fan. Snapper is better as sashimi, IMO. 🎣 Redfish was the star — tender, well-seasoned, with a lightly creamy broth that wasn’t too salty. 🍰 Dessert was pistachio crêpe cake — pistachio flavor automatically earns +50 points, and it wasn’t overly sweet. Perfect score! 🌟 Cochon Ate here seven years ago, and it earned a spot in the 2025 Michelin Guide on its own merit! 🔥 Wood-fired oysters were the highlight — super sweet with zero fishy taste. 🐟 Roasted Gulf Fish was well-spiced without overpowering the fish itself. 🐊 Fried alligator tasted like tough, bland chicken — worth a try for novelty but not more. 🥩 Brisket was just okay — exactly what it looked like. 🌟 Commander’s Palace The legendary Creole institution. 🍤 Shrimp & Tasso Henican appetizer was sweet and sour — decent but not outstanding. 🥩 Jerk Spiced Short Rib was basically a fried oyster on a thin slice of beef — tasty though! 🐌 Escargot Croustade — sherry-braised snails with smoked turkey neck paste on toast, served with pickled veggies and rabbit liver pâté. The chef went all out — maybe too much. One bite felt like sensory overload — so many flavors, hard to distinguish! 🐟 Pecan Crusted Gulf Fish — the asparagus, corn, and pecans added great texture. Loved the mild fish with excellent mouthfeel — so much that I didn’t even try my partner’s Rémoulade Texas Redfish. 😅 🌟 GW Fin 🦑 Calamari was just okay — overcooked and not served hot. 🐟 Tuna Dip was mediocre — the cracker coating was rough on the throat if not chewed carefully. 🐠 Scalibut (Halibut + Scallop) — the sides were better than the fish. 🍝 Swordfish Bolognese was fine. Not bad, but more about the ambiance than the food. #BeautifulMeals #NewOrleans #NewOrleansFood #FoodieGuide 🎉🍤🥂
