Nomad Life: 1 Month in New Orleans 🌟
After weathering a historic freeze, dodging a terrorist attack scare, and falling hard for NOLA, I can confidently say: this city stands out in the U.S. for livability. Here’s my digital nomad guide after a month-long stay: 🏡 Housing Airbnbs are cheap (~$2000/month in nice areas). AVOID 1230/1232 St. Anthony St. (Landlord "Andrew" = rude, ancient heating). Safe zones: French Quarter (but stay inside Rampart St.), Garden District, Marigny, Bywater, City Park. Skip: Treme, 7th Ward (and northeast of it). Winter tip: Confirm heating works! ❄️ 🚶 Walkability No car? No problem! Flat streets, dense neighborhoods, and everything (groceries, cafés) within blocks. Drivers: Parking is easy except in French Quarter. 🛒 Groceries Rouse’s (local chain) + multiple Walmarts. Meat = dirt cheap; veggies = average priced. ☔ Weather (January) Rollercoaster: 20°F to 70°F (yes, all four seasons). Packing: Light layers, rain jacket, and a winter coat (this year hit 6" snow!). ❤️ Why NOLA Wins History, culture, art oozing everywhere. Walkable, affordable, delicious. Locals = fiercely kind. ⚠️ Cons Hurricanes (predictable) + crime (avoid sketchy areas). To be continued... Next up: neighborhood deep-dive! #DigitalNomad #NewOrleans #SlowTravel #NOLALiving
