Norway Travel Guide 🇳🇴 | Life Advice: You Must Visit Lofoten Once
The Lofoten Islands 🏔️ are a grand gift for travel enthusiasts—the pinnacle of Norway's natural landscapes, worthy of every traveler who makes the journey. Perhaps due to its remote access, it remains far less commercialized than Tromsø. If you can only pick one place in Norway, bet on Lofoten! ✈️ Best Way to Reach the Islands After extensive research, we chose the optimal route: a small plane from Bodø! Lofoten has three airports from north to south: Evenes, Svolvær, and Leknes. Since our first stop was Reine, we flew into Leknes and departed via the Hurtigruten cruise 🛳️ from Svolvær. (Avoid flying into Evenes and exiting via Harstad—it’s time-consuming!) 💡 Pro Tip: Most of Lofoten’s stunning scenery lies south of Leknes, particularly from Ramberg onward. We skipped the "marathon traveler" approach and focused solely on the southern gems! 🚗 Our Road Trip Route Oslo → Bodø (flight) Bodø → Leknes (20-seater tiny plane—an adventure itself!) Rented a car at Leknes Airport and drove straight to Reine, exploring from the island’s southern tip northward. Returned the car in Svolvær and departed via cruise. 💛 Must-Visit Spots 📍 Svolvær Lofoten’s gateway. Go fishing by day, chase auroras by night. 📍 Henningsvær A fairy-tale village at the "end of the world," home to the iconic floating football field. 📍 Nusfjord A postcard-perfect fishing village that embodies Arctic life. 📍 Sakrisøy Famous for its yellow cabins. Stop by Anita’s Sjømat for souvenirs! 📍 Hamnøy The Lonely Planet cover shot—google Fotospot Hamnoy for the photo angle. 📍 Å (A) Village The "end of Lofoten" with the world’s shortest name. The misty mountains here feel surreal. 📍 Reine One of the world’s top 10 most beautiful villages. Stay 2+ nights—it’s a prime aurora-viewing spot from your window! 💫 Key Tips Aurora Hunting: Highest chance between 18:00–22:00. Use Aurora Forecast app to track KP values. Rent a car! The landscapes are even more breathtaking in person—photos don’t do them justice. Dress for wind, not just cold. Temperatures are milder than expected.
