NYC | Max Edition Su Yi Shao & Corn-flavored Magnum 🌽

Konban made a huge splash when it first opened, with its Japanese-style izakaya. The hype has died down, so I finally checked it out 👀 ▪️Konban Corn Rib: Sweet and savory cheese powder coating the caramelized corn kernels, cut into strips for an elegant and mess-free bite. Who knew that the barbecue flavor of Su Yi Shao could be transformed into such a dish! ▪️Ternderloin Katsu: This netizen-favorite pork cutlet has zero bad reviews, but it’s not as juicy as expected? The meat is tender with a bite, and the breading remains crispy even when cold, but it separates upon the first bite. The black truffle salt adds a nice aroma. Personally, I wouldn’t make a special trip for it; Katsu-Hama in Midtown is better. ▪️Sushi Set: The rice is a bit loose, and the overall performance is nothing special. The tamagoyaki is shaped like a cute little cake ☁️ ▪️Branzino with Mushroom: The golden-brown skin of the branzino is like ASMR in your mouth, and the mushrooms are so bouncy they’re like meat (chew chew chew). The overall flavor is a sweet and savory Japanese teriyaki blend with a hint of charred aroma. ▪️Corn Ice Cream: The server said to wait 1 minute for it to be cut, but the white chocolate shell was still as hard as a brick… One bite and it’s like chomping down on a corn version of Magnum! You get both the milky and the fresh corn flavors, with actual corn kernels. Quite a likable dish! 🌽 Overall, it felt like a meal of snack-seasoned dishes. After eating, I felt like I could still eat something more, but I was pretty full. The menu isn’t extensive; a group can easily go through it, making it great for a taste adventure.
