Ever since trying Fabriqueâs cardamom bun last week, I couldnât stop thinking about that flavor. Then I read that Smorâs version might be even betterâso while near NYU, I had to check it out. đ´ Smør Bakery đ 437 E 12th St, New York, NY 10009 Itâs a bit tucked away in the East Village, with both a bakery and a brunch spot. Even though itâs out of the way, itâs packedâmostly with locals. They keep it simple: cardamom buns, cinnamon buns, croissants, scones. đĽ Cardamom Bun More intricately shaped than Fabriqueâs, so the spice is evenly spread. My comparison: Sweetness: Smor < Fabrique (less syrup-glazed) Spice intensity: Smor < Fabrique (Fabriqueâs is bolder) Texture: Smor > Fabrique (chewier, less soggy inside) đ Cinnamon Bun (my friendâs) â Also good! Not too sweet, strong cinnamon flavorâbut I still prefer cardamom for its deeper, more complex taste. Overall, Smor wins for meâespecially with that satisfying chew. If youâre near campus, itâs worth the trip.
