NYC Weekend Escape ο½ Cold Spring Autumn Hiking Guide π
Spent a perfect autumn day in Cold Spring with friends in mid-October β hereβs our relaxed yet well-paced itinerary! π Transportation We booked off-peak round-trip tickets from Grand Central to Cold Spring via the TrainTime app. Took the 7:58 AM train (arrived ~9:20 AM) β highly recommend sitting on the left side for the best Hudson River views! π³ Breakfast in Town We grabbed a cozy breakfast at Cozy Corner Cafe on Main Street. Finished around 10 AM β and yes, use the restroom here! The trailhead only has portable toilets, often with lines. β°οΈ Hiking Route Walked ~20 mins to Little Stony Point. We chose the Bull Hill Short Loop (marked with white, yellow, and blue trails). First half (white/yellow): steep climbs and stone steps β a solid workout! Second half (blue): gentler, passing the scenic Cornish Estate Ruins. Well-marked trails with phone signal throughout. Took us about 3 hours at a relaxed pace. After the hike, we headed to Little Stony Point Overlook for gorgeous river views β just 15 mins extra. Pro tip: Visit the overlook right after your hike to save time! We made the mistake of going back to town for lunch first and had to walk back later π π½οΈ Lunch at Le Bouchon Food was tasty, but be prepared to wait! We arrived at 1:40 PM, waited 40 minutes, and finished around 3:15 PM. π¨ Ice Cream & River Views Grabbed delicious ice cream at MooMooβs Creamery, then walked to the river via an underground shortcut (donβt trust Google Maps β it tries to make you take the long way!). π Heading Home We caught the 5:07 PM train back, but it was packed β had to stand the whole way. For a seat, consider taking the earlier train! A refreshing, nature-filled day just a train ride away from the city π #ColdSpringNY #NYCHiking #AutumnDayTrip #HudsonValley #WeekendEscape #FallFoliage
