Off to Berlin, to Pay Homage to Bauhaus! I’m Finally Here! ❤️
My first stop on the self-drive trip starting from Berlin: 📍 Bauhaus Building! As a design student, I’ve long heard of its fame from countless textbooks and training materials~ I even wrote my undergraduate thesis on "Anti-Postmodernism"—which essentially means I’m a supporter of modernism. To put it in today’s popular terms: I’m a "J-person" (modernism) opposing "P-people" (postmodernism) 😂! Less is bore? No—Less is more! For friends who’re interested, here’s an excerpt to learn more: 🏢 In 1919, Walter Gropius founded Bauhaus in Weimar, Germany. In 1933, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, the last director, was forced to dissolve Bauhaus in Berlin amid political pressures during World War II. Though the school only existed for a short, turbulent 14 years—going through many internal struggles and developments—it became a synonym for radical modern-style living. After its dissolution, the ideas it fostered weren’t suppressed by the system. When Bauhaus teachers left Germany, they achieved great success in the United States. To this day, Bauhaus teaching strategies are still widely used in art courses and design institutions around the world. Bauhaus was an artistic pioneer of its era. What it advocated is what we call the "Bauhaus style"—pure minimalism combined with industrial production, emphasizing the integration of function and beauty 🎨. #BauhausBuilding #ModernDesignHistory #BAUHAUS
