Osaka Travel Summary 12 - Yasaka Shrine (2)๐ฟ
Worshipping Susano'o no Mikoto and Kushinada-hime no Mikoto (kushiinadahimenomikoto), as well as the Eight Pillar Child Deity (yahashiranomikogami). ๐ฟ ๐ข๐ The main hall and the worship hall are covered by the same roof, a construction method not seen in other buildings, thus it is called the Gion-zukuri style. ๐๐บ The current structure was rebuilt in 1654 (Shลhล 3) by Tokugawa Ietsuna, the fourth shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate. ๐๏ธ Yasaka Shrine is home to many incredible legends, one of which involves the main hall. ๐ข๐ According to local tales in Kyoto, beneath the main hall lies a vast pool, whose water veins extend all the way to the Shinsenen Garden to the west of Heian-kyล and Tล-ji Temple to the south. ๐๐บ Not only that, but this large pool is said to store the energy of the earth, serving as the "dragon's lair" where the Azure Dragon resides, protecting the land of Kyoto from ancient times until now. ๐ฟ There is also a popular belief among the people that if you stand under the pillar on the east side of the main hall (to the right when facing the main hall) and clap your hands vigorously towards the west, the echo here will be the loudest. ๐ข๐ This is known as the "dragon's roar effect," where the dragon head carvings on the pillars resonate with the sound of clapping. ๐ฟ #TravelTips #JapanTravel #OsakaTravel
