Oslo, Norway: Classic Crispy Pork Experience 🐖

Restaurant Name: Den Glade Gris 📍 St. Olavs Gate 33, 0166 Oslo, Norway 💰 Average Cost per Person: NOK 400-500 Den Glade Gris is a traditional Norwegian restaurant filled with pig-themed elements. From the sculptures at the entrance to the interior decor, menu design, wall art, and even the staff uniforms, everything is pig-themed! The staff uniforms are especially adorable. 🐷 Aside from the charming pig theme, the food is delicious. I ordered two main dishes, both classic Norwegian pork dishes, and neither was greasy or had any strange flavors. The portions were generous! Highlights: 🍖 Crispy Roast Pork (Langgrillet svineknoke) — NOK 396 This is the restaurant's signature dish, and it's likely what everyone comes for. The pork knuckle is roasted for at least 5 hours, making it incredibly tender and easy to debone. The skin is incredibly crispy, almost to the point of being challenging to cut at first. The inside is soft and succulent. The flavor is savory and aromatic, with no strange aftertaste. The portion is huge—one is enough for two people, and we even took leftovers home. 🥬 Classic Potato Mash with Pork (Grisens lapskaus) — NOK 235 This dish is also pork-based but has a completely different flavor profile compared to the roast pork. The pork here is softer and more tender, almost melting in your mouth. Served with potatoes and carrots, it has a surprisingly fresh and slightly sweet taste. It also comes with crispy pork cracklings, which I loved. Again, the portion was large enough for two. Additional Notes: Location: The restaurant is conveniently located in the city center. Oslo is a compact city, so getting around after your meal is easy. Reservation: I didn't make a reservation and visited during lunchtime, but there was no wait. Cute Pigs: The pig theme is really charming and adds a fun touch to the dining experience. 😊 Oslo Wrap-Up: This marks the end of my Oslo section in my Norway travel series. If you're interested, check out more detailed reviews of the restaurants that left a lasting impression on me. The Bergen part is still to come! Summary: Definitely visit Den Glade Gris, especially if you love pork. It's a must-try! 🥩 #Oslo #OsloFood #OsloTravel #OsloTravelTips #NorwayTravel #NorwayFood #NorwayTourism #CrispyRoastPork #PorkLovers
