Oslo · A Feast for the Palate 🍖

April 9, 2025 · Oslo · Sunny with Clouds Today's lunch was hands down the most satisfying meal of our entire Norway trip. It was nothing short of a "porcine feast"! 🎉 At noon, we arrived at a charmingly named restaurant—Den Glade Gris, which translates to "The Happy Pig." The decor outside the restaurant was delightful: a plump statue of a pig sat on a bench, seemingly waiting to enjoy a delicious meal as well. The chalkboard outside read "Ølstue med god mat & drikke" (a tavern with good food and drink), which immediately made our mouths water. 🍽️ We ordered two signature dishes: BBQ pork ribs and braised pork knuckles. The ribs were generous in portion, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Drizzled with a rich barbecue sauce, each bite was succulent and juicy. Paired with thick-cut fries and a refreshing tangy coleslaw, it was simply divine. 🍖 The pork knuckles were the star of the show! The skin was perfectly crisp, while the meat inside was tender and flavorful. Served with a creamy sauce and stewed vegetables, it was an absolute explosion of flavors. With just a gentle cut of the knife and fork, the meat effortlessly separated from the bone. Paired with smooth mashed potatoes and crunchy cabbage, it was pure bliss. 🍖 After the meal, we leaned back in our chairs, patting our full bellies, and looked at the pink pig murals on the walls. We couldn't help but smile: this meal truly brought us joy from the stomach to the heart. 😊 This place is truly a hidden gem recommended by locals in Oslo. If you're a fan of pork dishes, don't miss it. Next time I'm in Oslo, I'll definitely be back to "The Happy Pig"! 🐖 #OsloFoodie #OsloCuisine
