Oxford Summer School|OPP Voucher Restaurant Reviews (Part 2) 🍴
Here’s the update with the last 5 restaurants! 1️⃣ Hotspot A Chinese restaurant in the suburbs with banquet-style decor. They offer rice and noodle dishes with a pretty good variety. I got the tomato and beef brisket rice 🍅—the portion was generous and it tasted great, but it was literally just rice and beef. Would’ve loved some greens 🥬 to go with it! 2️⃣ Meal Plus Another Chinese restaurant in the suburbs. I’d heard their Hainanese chicken rice was amazing, so I was super excited… but it’s not included in the OPP menu 💔. Options include Hong Kong-style char siu rice, Japanese chicken cutlet rice, or udon. I went with the char siu rice—the BBQ pork was tasty, but the veg was just a pile of plain greens. The portion felt smaller compared to other Chinese spots. 3️⃣ Mercure Eastgate I feel like hardly anyone has tried this one lol 😂—it’s a restaurant inside a hotel! Fancy vibe. You can choose between burgers and pizza. I went with a classic Margherita pizza 🍕, which came out huge—way too much for one person. It was pretty good though! Friends liked their pizzas too. Later we noticed the burgers are priced higher… maybe try those? 🍔 4️⃣ Shoryu Ramen Highly recommend! It’s a Japanese ramen shop 🍜. Appetizer was edamame. For mains, there are different ramen options—I got the classic tonkotsu. A bit on the salty side, but the portion was solid and super delicious! They also serve tea 🍵 (finally not just Coke or Sprite—I avoid carbonated drinks). A friend said the ramen with fried chicken was good too, but the spicy ramen lacked broth flavor—just pure heat, so order with caution. You can’t go wrong with the classics here. So good I went twice! 💯 5️⃣ White Rabbit A Western restaurant… and my biggest disappointment 😓. I ordered a calzone (which is like a giant pizza dumpling 🥟) and it was… an experience. weird plastic-like taste?? Could barely finish it. Friends thought it was bad too. Maybe we ordered wrong—I’ve heard their regular pizzas are decent, but the menu was confusing and we ended up with a disaster. Avoid the calzone here!! To sum up: Most Asian places I tried in Oxford didn’t disappoint (after eating college-level Western food all day, I really craved some homely flavours 🥹). Make sure to check opening hours and locations before heading out—some spots are near Westgate, so you can shop after eating! #Oxford #OxfordSummerSchool #OPP #OxfordProspectProgramme #RestaurantReviews #HitOrMiss #OxfordFood #OxfordFoodRecommendations #OxfordFoodie
