Parachute Bakery – SF’s New MICHELIN Hyped Spot 🥐💫
Heard the buzz about this new “pastry assassin” at the Ferry Building — with mixed reviews, so I had to see for myself! Arrived at 7:40 AM (opens 8 AM) with about six people ahead — not too bad! By 7:50 AM, the line grew. 🕗 Tip: Come around 7:45 AM to avoid a crowd. At 8:06 AM, it was my turn! Each person is limited to 4 items. I went with two sweet and two savory picks: 🍰 Vanilla & Passionfruit Cube Their signature item! A delicate cube topped with cream and filled with passionfruit custard. 😬 Sadly, the passionfruit was overwhelmingly sour — and the cream felt totally separate. I ended up scooping out the filling and just eating the bread… Not a win. 🍳 Shakshuka with Local Peppers A savory surprise! Soft bread with a runny egg, local peppers, and melted cheese on top. 🌟 A pleasant balance — egg was tender, peppers flavorful, cheese just right. Much better than the passionfruit cube! 🍌 Roasted Banana & Pecan 👑 My favorite! Sweet but not overly so — roasted banana and pecan paste blended perfectly inside a flaky, fragrant pastry. 💯 The only one I’d definitely come back for! 🧀 Savory Pan Suisse A hearty option with spinach, mushroom, and melty cheese. The largest portion — could last two meals! 🍞 Tasty but not remarkable. For $12, I’d probably skip it next time. 🛍️ After my bakery run, I also grabbed: 🥧 Two empanadas from El Porteño (beef & mushroom — always reliable!) 🍫 A small box of dark chocolates from Recchiuti Then… home to nap! 😴💤 Final Take: “Pastry assassin” is right — the flavors are fine, but not mind-blowing, especially for Michelin-level prices. Worth a try if there’s no line, but for long waits? I’d rather head to Butter & Crumble. #BayAreaEats #SFBakeries #SFFood #MichelinBakery #ParachuteBakery #BayAreaWeekend #FoodReview
